Meet the Band - Musical Director
Gretton Silver Band was delighted to welcome Mr David Mann as Musical Director in October 2008.
David was originally taught in the Salvation Army in Manchester. He has played in many bands at all levels, and has played most of the instruments available. Some playing highlights include:
Competing for the British Open, National Championships, All-England Masters, Brass In Concert and Grand Shield while at the William Davis Construction Group Band.
Playing in the Lord Mayor’s Show and at the Menin Gate while with the Band of the West Midlands Fire Service.
Tours to Germany, Switzerland and France as well as the UK.
Finally realising a boyhood ambition to play Soprano Cornet.
When not involved with Brass Bands, he plays trombone in a swing band and bass guitar in church. He is also a published arranger.
He hopes to use his musical experience to help Gretton Silver improve their playing while having lots of fun and preparing entertaining yet challenging music for concerts. He says,” I have had so much pleasure from making music that I want to put something back into the movement by encouraging others”.
David has been married to Pauline since 1979 and they have 3 grown-up children. He was trained as an industrial chemist and represents a British manufacturer of repair and maintenance products.
